Tourism In Saudi Post Pandemic: is it safe?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, most countries around the world introduced restrictive precautionary measures on incoming and outgoing travel. The kingdom was no exception, implementing strict travel restrictions and guidelines that lasted about 17 months. Now that global travel is slowly returning to normal activity, a lot of travelers prefer to double check whether their destination is currently safe to visit.

We’ll share some important points to keep in mind while planning your post-pandemic trip to the kingdom. The official twitter account for the General Authority of Civil Aviation, @GACACare - is also a great resource to answer travelers’ inquiries.

Saudi has been one of the best countries worldwide in its methods of handling infection control; to enter or leave the kingdom, any traveler above 8 years of age will be required to provide a negative PCR COVID test taken up to 72 hours prior to boarding their flight, as well as present their Tawakkalna profile and vaccine certificate at the airport to verify their infection status and whether they’ve received one vaccine shot or are fully vaccinated.

If you are not currently vaccinated, no worries! There are numerous vaccination centers in every city and province accepting those who reserve a vaccine shot appointment through the Ministry of Health’s app Sehhaty, and some centers even accept walk ins. Vaccine types offered in Saudi include: Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson; these are also the vaccine types recognized by the MOH for incoming visitors.

You’ll also be required to wear a mask and present your Tawakkalna profile anywhere you go inside the kingdom, from shops and grocery stores to malls, pharmacies and even tourist sites, this ensures your wellbeing and helps to alleviate any concerns regarding a location’s health safety.

Tip: While packing for your flight don’t fret about grabbing an extra mask or hand sanitizer, most airlines in Saudi will provide travelers with a kit including an extra mask, sanitizer packets and wipes.
